It’s shorter by water – our customers agree. Our latest passenger survey, carried out in Spring 2013, highlighted that almost half (43%) of our customers use the ferry because it offers a shorter journey.
Most of our passengers are Gosport-based – with almost 80% starting their journey on the Gosport side. Nearly 40% use the ferry for work, 25% for shopping and a further 23% travel by ferry for visiting family and friends, nights out or to visit local tourist attractions. Gunwharf Quays is one of the most popular destinations for ferry users.
Our busiest times are in the morning with 31% of passengers boarding the ferry between 7.30 and 9.30am and a further 29% from 9.30 to lunchtime. Many of our passengers enjoy a very environmentally friendly journey to work or the shops, with 375 of people responding to the survey saying they arrive at the ferry terminal on foot, 234 by bike and a further 400 by bus. More than 760 passengers said that once they arrive at Portsmouth, they will walk to their final destination
The majority of our customers use the ferry regularly, with nearly 40% using our service more than four times a week, and a further 28% travelling by ferry between one and three times every week. The survey also highlighted that 70% of passengers have used the ferry for five years or more.
